Mallorca has a lot to offer visitors, but the spectacular Cap de Formentor is one of the highlights.
Situated on the eastern end baywind residences of Majorca’s Formentor, it has spectacular views of the region and is known as the meeting point of the winds.
According to local legend, the winds have been named for centuries and this spot where the huge cliffs jut into the sea and shelter hidden sandy coves, strange rock formations and mystical caves is also the place where the winds gather.
The winds are called Tramuntana, Ponenet, Migjom and Madeira Llevantthe and their cousins are named Gregal, Llebetx, Xaloc, Mestral. They were seen as especially important to the area due to its reliance on fishing and agriculture.
Visitors to the Cap de Formentor can experience the sheer power of the wind by standing at the tip of the peninsula and watching the waves crash at the rocks 300 metres below. Autoværksted
One of the highlights of the area is the lighthouse, which dates back to 1892.
Surrounded by rare and protected plants and built out of the rocks that jut out along the cliff, the only way to reach the building is by walking along the steep cliff path, which is also a great option to experience the area’s views.
Cap de Formentor can be reached by two paths, jocuri poki which were designed by the Italian engineer Antonio Paretti and built as two silk ribbons that weave through the cliffs. The snake road travels from San Calobra and the other from Port de Pollenca. The views from both roads offer spectacular sights and beautiful scenery.
There are a number of cali plug carts different vantage points along the headland where people can gaze out onto the ocean, such as the Mirador del Mal Pas where Menorca is illuminated in the east, Alcudia and its sandy beaches can be found to the south and Cala Fiquerea in the west.
The nearby Formentor beach, fragrance samples once exclusively for the rich and famous residents of the Hotel Formentor, was built in 1928 and is a great place to relax in the sun and the nearby bays Cala Fiquera, Cala Murta and Cala Pi de la Posada are also business lovely to visit.
